The Cutthroats play in the 25WAA wood bat division of the Denver National Adult Baseball Association, the largest and best men’s baseball organization in Colorado. The club was founded in 2012 by John LeDrew, Jon Bielecki and Kellen Sorauf, and takes its name from Colorado’s state fish.

Over the club’s dozen seasons, the team has made seven playoff appearances, won five pennants and captured three straight league championships in 2021, ’22 and ’23.

Weekly updates, game results and standout individual performances can be found on the club’s Twitter stream.

A glance at the Cutthroats’ year-by-year results.

The club prides itself on a tight-knit family atmosphere. While many men’s league squads carry scores of players across multiple rosters, the Cutthroats carry just 12 to 14 players each summer. That means everybody contributes to the team’s chemistry and on-field success, of which Colorado’s had plenty of over the last few seasons.

In 2021, the Cutthroats beat the Denver Chill in the 25WA semifinals before capturing the franchise’s first title with a 12-11 instant-classic win over the Colorado Buffaloes at Long Lake Ranch.

The Cutthroats matched that 25WA title feat in 2022, again vanquishing the Chill in the semifinals before beating the Denver Cannon Ballers 7-4 in the title at Denver Christian.

Then in 2023, the Cutthroats turned in the greatest season in club history while securing the 25WA three-peat. Colorado again beat the Chill in the semifinals before rallying to defeat the Cannon Ballers in the championship for a second straight year, 12-4 at Long Lake Ranch.

In addition to winning a third straight championship in ’23, the Cutthroats’ 18 wins were the most victories out of all 76 clubs across Denver NABA’s nine leagues. They did that with only nine healthy players on the roster down the stretch of the summer.

Colorado’s roster consists largely of ex-college players, including a few former Division I standouts. Off the diamond, the Cutthroats span varying careers, including teachers, coaches, engineers, a rocket scientist, a freight driver and a restaurateur.

The Cutthroats’ primary rival is the Denver Chill, but Colorado also has spirited histories with the Denver Hops, Denver Bulls, Denver Wiseguys, Denver Jays and Cannon Ballers. The Cutthroats’ brother team is the Colorado Redhawks, who also play in the 25WAA division.

Colorado all-star outfielder Sreyas Krishnan works as a Propulsion Systems Design Engineer for Blue Origin.

Colorado plays its home games at Thomas Jefferson High School and also has an indoor training facility in Parker. In 2023, Thomas Jefferson was named the state’s Field of the Year by the Colorado Dugout Club Coaches Association, a credit to the work that team captain (and TJHS head coach) Graham Baughn puts into the diamond.

The Cutthroats are 135-82-5 all-time entering 2024 (61.94 winning percentage), including 12-4 in the playoffs.

The club is managed by Denver Post sportswriter Kyle Newman, who is in his fifth season at the helm.

Thomas Jefferson High School (3950 S Holly St in Denver) is the award-winning home of the Cutthroats.
